Program overview

SCU:BA is a 6-week immersive summer program hosted by Code Your Dreams, the University of Chicago Department of Computer Science, and UChicago Hillel. Students learn the basics of Python programming, design thinking, and creative problem-solving while working on hands-on projects and challenges. The program is designed for beginners and focuses on helping students explore technology as a tool for creativity and innovation. Throughout the program, students will work with mentors, collaborate with peers, and gain experience building projects from idea to implementation.

  • Introduce students to Python programming and computational thinking in an engaging, beginner-friendly way
  • Help students learn design thinking and problem-solving skills they can use in school and beyond
  • Build confidence in using technology to create projects and solve real-world challenges

  • Create a supportive learning environment where students can collaborate, experiment, and grow

This program is designed for students who:

  • Are entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade
  • Attend a public high school in the Chicagoland area
  • Are curious about technology and problem-solving
  • Enjoy creativity, building things, or learning new skills
  • Do not need prior coding experience
