What to expect

We’re thrilled to invite high school students to the NASA Space Apps Hackathon—a global event where students come together to tackle real-world space and Earth challenges using data, creativity, and teamwork.

No experience is required—hackathons are for everyone! Whether you’re into coding, design, research, storytelling, or just curious to learn and contribute, there’s a place for you on a team. This is often the first hackathon for many of our students.

You will:

  • Collaborate in teams to solve real NASA challenges
  • Learn from expert mentors and guest speakers
  • Build creative tech or design projects—past ideas include hurricane-tracking websites and climate education games
  • Gain experience with emerging technologies and space data
  • Add a standout project to your resume or college apps
  • Have fun, meet new people, and grow your skills!

Note: Uber gift cards will be provided to cover transportation costs for the weekend

Important: Please only apply if you can commit to both full days of the hackathon: October 4th and 5th, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Full participation is required.
